Go Go In Six Months

No lie.
I lost count and memories of happiness.
Looks like I will either be starting over or finish from where I left off. Poo.

What in the world could my child be wearing a helmet made from paper products and office supplies for?

Because, her latest love is Disney’s Big Hero 6.
It is a cute little film and she loves pretending to be a part of a superhero group. Especially Go Go or Honey Lemon, the two female members of the team. Go Go does just that, she likes to move insanely fast and bubbly Honey Lemon specializes in chemistry.

With Harloh’s request to be Go Go, she also mentioned a want for Mommy to be Honey Lemon and Daddy to be Wasabi.
That is half of the six and three costumes for me to start making.

With never making accessories like helmets before, this is going to take some serious craftiness.
Being on a budget and only working with plaster wraps (strips) once or twice, I knew there had to be a cheaper starting point to prepare for plaster.
Having plenty of art supplies on hand and free weekly ads via the mail, we went the paper mâché route. This was Harloh’s first time getting messy and she… well… made a mess with much enjoyment!

Now, I’m excited to pick up more items such as the plaster wraps and paint. Even going to hit the thrift stores.

Six months until Halloween!

Does this count for happy?!

Taking It Easy with Finger Puppets

As promised, today we made some (but, not all) princess finger puppets.

The idea came from the issue of Princess magazine that my sister gifted my daughter.

I traced the two main shapes (the head and body) on a thin piece of paper and cut it out. Harloh then informed me on what princesses she would like to make: Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Ariel, and Rapunzel.

So, while she was playing in her room, I got to cutting out the pieces. Instead of just felt, these were made from thin colored foam as well. Thankfully, we have a nice selection and different shades to create with.

Cutting everything out was a little more time-consuming than originally believed.

All Ready!

One-by-one, I glued the two pieces for the body/dress of each puppet (minus the bottom, to slip in her tiny fingers) and let her do the rest. Harloh had a blast putting these together and they came out great. I held the glue because it is near end and either came out too slow or too fast, but she let me know where the glue was to go and her favorite part was the hair and drawing in the eyes.

All Done!

One of the extras I cut out was the hands. Probably a little unnecessary, but the wee bit of perfectionism in me said to do it. So, I listened.

After this weekend, I promised Harloh we can do Tianna, Elsa, Anna, Jasmine, and Snow White.

These projects are so fun and will say:
I am rather lucky to have the ability to spend this time with my daughter. It may not always be rainbows and butterflies and some days are worst than others, but these moments make up for a lot of the misery and pain.

Creative Crafts with Harloh

This week has been all over the place and a straight 24 hours of sleep sounds like the ultimate fantasy…

Instead, Harloh helped mommy make it an easy day. She played in her room for most of the morning while I cleaned out her tank and then got some much needed relaxation. It is a little bittersweet how she can entertain herself. She is really into her dolls, make-believe, and Disney right now, and she plays them with real-life scenarios (this week is using the potty haha).

Finished Product!

Her Aunt Sarah purchased a Princess magazine as part of a Christmas present. The first craft project was a necklace featured in this issue. Harloh chose a pink pipe cleaner to lace her different beads on. When she was done, we shaped it into a heart and used beads to string it on. She was so proud of her pretty princess necklace.

The next project was butterflies to start off Valentine’s 2015.
Heart butterflies.
We used craft sticks and foam heart stickers to create the body. Googly eyes were glued on, then, I cut out wing shapes and sectioned pipe cleaners for the antennas and legs, poked them under the sticky sections of the hearts and covered the back of the wings with another sticker to keep from poking out. Minus the wings and legs, Harloh did everything herself. She even colored with glitter glue ( pretty sure this is her favorite thing to do) and it came out so good.

Honestly, I like hers a lot more than mine haha!

Tomorrow holds another round of crafts.
Harloh wants to make princess finger puppets and the first one on her list is Princess Aurora. This is going to be fun because I love watching her put faces together.

Even if they end up a little abstract 🙂
